FAQs

WHAT DO I NEED TO BE PART OF PROJECT:FILMBOX?

First and foremost we are looking for a good story and someone with the motivation to see their part of the project through to completion. Other things we encourage:
  • A film crew. This is the kind of project that’s going to be a team effort.
  • Experience in filmmaking is not a necessity, but a high quality final product is what we’re looking for. If you’re not experienced in filmmaking you need to be willing to devote time to research about how to make film/edit and to get help from people who are experienced.
  • A professional editing program for picture and one for sound.
  • A program for color correction.
  • Most of all: the drive to makes this global movie project a reality

CAN I PARTICIPATE IN PROJECT FILMBOX WITHOUT GETTING THE CAMERA FROM YOU, BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE A GOPRO HD 2 CAMERA?

Yes! We will happily accept submissions that comply with the all the technical requirements stated on the Technical Requirements page. However…
  • you still need to submit a one page summary of your story and a one page justification for its inclusion in the project before you start filming
  • your edited files still need to be submitted with the submission form (you can find it in the download section)

CAN I USE THE GOPRO 1, I DON’T HAVE A GOPRO 2?

It´s definitely better to use the GoPro 2 so please apply for one with your idea/treatment first, so we can send you a GoPro Hero HD 2 to shoot with. But if we cant get a GoPro 2 to you in time or you do not want to wait you can shoot with the GoPro 1. We would rather have you shooting with the GoPro 1 than not at all.

WHY 1080 25P NOT 30FPS?

30 fps is the standard in the USA and Japan. 25 fps is the standard in the rest of the world and in Europe where we are based and where we will edit everything together. Down sampling from 30fps to 20fps almost always results in choppy picture, so we are asking everyone to shoot in 25fps so that a smooth postproduction workflow is guaranteed.

WHAT IF I DON´T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EDIT MY FILM PROFESSIONALLY OR JUST PARTIALLY?

We will be happy to help you out the best we can. We will always answer all the questions you may have. If you cannot edit your film professionally (or just partially) we will talk about it and we will find a way. We do have the experience and necessary hardware to professionally edit picture and sound. However, keep in mind that we practically don’t have the ability to edit every submission we receive from raw footage, nor is that really the purpose of this project. We want this be a joint effort, which is why we ask you to edit it (these are your movies that you’re submitting, not ours).

HOW CAN I HELP?

Glad you asked! We can always use your help by spreading the news of this project to friends, colleagues, news stations, companies (whatever you can think of). We want this project to be big and we want every single one of you out there to be a part of it! We are just initiating, you are the ones that make this possible. We are also always looking for sponsorship to increase the amount of cameras we can send out, to decrease the cost of shipping, etc. Also, if you would like to contribute to this project by donating, we would sincerely appreciate any amount. Even the smallest donations (which can easily be given through our PayPal account) can help make this project a reality.

ANY LAST TIPS?

Yes: Please follow us on twitter and facebook. We will use those platforms to continuously inform you about the progress of the project, any changes in plan, or just great news.

Who we are

Andreas Groke

Andreas

Andreas learned about his passion for film some time ago. If not for this project, he would probably work as a director on some films and music videos right now. Wait, maybe he actually is doing that… who knows? He definitely likes to develop ideas and put those plans in action. That’s why he focused on developing the content and realization of this project. Like everyone on this team he is graduating next year as a Master of time dependent media but right now he is writing on his master thesis about empathy in movie scenes.

Adrian Cichosz

Adrian

Adrian was born in Germany, but since he has some polish roots, he is bringing the international vibe to the table. He was the kind of kid in school who knew two languages since the beginning, you know? That’s also why he is rooting for Germany and Poland in the European Football Championship next year. Because he is focusing on video technics and project management in his master studies and since he is always keeping a cool head in challenging situations, he is responsible for the organization and execution of the project.

Julius Dettmer

Julius

Before his master studies Julius studied Animation Film in Netherlands for three years. At Project: Filmbox he is responsible for the design and, who would have thought, the animations. But there is bubbling a lot more ideas from his head and that’s why he always needs to be there, no exceptions! Julius is he guy everybody calls for video animation or motion design projects, but only if he is not too busy reading his comic books or getting crazy with his sketchbook.

Lennart Luebcke

Lennart

He has got good eyes but even better ears! Lennart is probably one of the best sound designers out there. After finishing his bachelor studies he is now focusing in audio engineering and sound design in his masters while always working on some films or his own music. No break for those ears… Without Lennart on this team Project: Filmbox sadly would have been a silent film. But since no one has done those in the last 80 years, the team is very fortunate to have him.
